Data, Tech, and Security

Direct, Responsive, IT Support

The Institute’s informational technology team meets the computing and data security needs of the IHRP community. Researchers and their staff can count on the team’s dedication and prompt, effective solutions for computing challenges. Researchers at IHRP find our team is highly responsive to their needs.

Comprehensive Computing Environment

IHRP features a secure, comprehensive computing environment, which includes servers, desktop computers and printers connected to a local area network. All conference and meeting rooms offer connectivity to the Internet and can be set up for web conferencing.

In addition to the familiar office software suites, our computing environment supports the newest versions of statistical, analytical, mathematical, and data processing software. Software updates and security patches are deployed via the network and outside of business hours.

Secure Internal Network

IHRP’s secure internal network allows researchers to access and analyze data safely from any computer, anywhere, at any time.

The network offers scalability, which facilitates the adoption of creative and technologically unique methods of data collection. All network data are backed up nightly to a remote database.

Services With Expertise

Besides maintaining the quality of our computing environment and network, our IT professionals provide prompt, direct, on-site maintenance and support of over 200 desktop and laptop computers.

The team has over 30 years’ experience in building, enhancing and managing a computing environment for research. Their expertise includes multiple, exam-based certifications in Microsoft Enterprise management and network security.

Their services cover:

  • The purchase, set-up, installation and assurance of functionality of software and hardware, including printers.
  • Connectivity to the Institute and University networks from within and outside the University.
  • Maintenance of legally required and best practice protections.
  • High-volume file storage for researchers.
  • Consulting services for other computing needs.

Web Services for Many Stakeholders

The IT team at the Institute supports over 400 users throughout the University. We maintain a secure, Web-based research application for the University on behalf of the College of Medicine. With this tool, REDCap, any UIC researcher can build and manage a database that allows for secure online collection and entry of research data.

Our team also supports servers for Crosspad, a clinical scheduling software used by the Center for Clinical and Translational Science’s Clinical Research Center.
